The
Atlantic was built at Shooter’s Island, New York in 1903.
The 185’ steam schooner became legendary after she won the
1905 Kaiser’s Cup and set a world record that held until 1980
by crossing the Atlantic in 12 days. Powered by a steam auxiliary
engine, she sported a special low-drag propeller and a folding funnel,
both of which were removed for racing.
